The St Vincent de Paul Society (SVP) was established in England and Wales in 1844 and is part of a large and thriving Christian voluntary movement dedicated to tackling poverty in all its forms by providing practical assistance to people in need in 153 countries.

The St Vincent De Paul Tower House Community Centre on London Road in Brighton, is set to join the city-wide Artist’s Open House festival next month with the aim of bringing more people to the centre to raise the profile of the community-focused activities they offer. The centre will be open every Saturday and Sunday during the festival, allowing 11 talented artists and makers to showcase their work.

The event will offer a fantastic opportunity for members of the local community to visit the centre’s – which is a Grade II listed building - and see the incredible work the SVP does daily. Centre Manager at Tower House as Nicki Freeman explains more:

“We’re thrilled to be a part of this city-wide festival which is such a huge deal in the city. Everyone has pulled together to be able to make this work and we can’t wait to welcome the artists and makers and the rest of the community to the centre. Not many people know about us, and this is the perfect way to showcase what the centre is all about... we’re a centre for the community, and we want everyone to know they are welcome and there’s something here for them.”

Starting in May, the Centre also has a number of exciting new services for the over 50s including a member’s only club from Monday to Thursday where people can enjoy a wide range of activities and a hot two-course meal and the option of a men-only club on Wednesdays.
