The diocesan Tribunal recently celebrated the work of three very valuable volunteer members of the Tribunal Team who stepped down from their roles at the end of 2022. For almost 70 years between them, they had faithfully served the people who come to us asking for consideration of marriage annulment as they seek to move forward in their lives after divorce.
David Driscoll and John Flood started their life in the Tribunal as Lay Auditors - people who sensitively interview friends and families of the Parties in each case. They then agreed to take on the very important role of Defender of the Bond - the person tasked with providing their carefully considered observations on the marriage cases to the Judges, advising them of those aspects which would support the validity of the prior marriage.
Leo Cash took on the role of Associate Judge, one of three judges to consider each case, an undertaking that requires a high level of knowledge and understanding of Marriage Canon Law to balance both justice (to the Parties and the marriage) and mercy in reaching a decision that affects many lives. Carmel Keller, the Tribunal Administrator said:
"Their work has truly been invaluable; their departure a real loss to us and the people of the Diocese."
The Diocese wishes to thank to John, Leo, and David (pictured left to right) for their many years of service.
