This year, as last year, Catholic universities are experiencing strong additional demand for their initial teacher education courses (including in shortage subjects). This is excellent news for the universities and for the Catholic education sector in general. However, a limiting factor in accepting increased numbers of student teachers is finding sufficient extra placements in schools, as all trainee teachers require two school placements. Particular pressure points for placements include primary and secondary maths, science, and modern languages, with placements needed across all provision.
If your school can offer a placement for any primary or secondary trainee teachers at St Mary’s University, they would be delighted to hear from you. As always, the Autumn Term will be exceptionally demanding for schools, but it is hoped that St Mary’s trainees can be a major support for the learning needs of individuals and groups of pupils in your classrooms.
