Applications for this year's diocesan pilgrimage to Lourdes are now open on our website; 2024 will be a celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the diocesan Lourdes Pilgrimage, and the 20th Anniversary of the Redshirts youth programme, both of which have helped so many people encounter God’s love through witnessing the pilgrimage vision of ‘Love in Action’.
Our hope for 2024 is that new and former pilgrims may hear Our Lady’s invitation to ‘Come to Lourdes in Procession’ with the 50th anniversary celebrations open to the whole diocesan family. Bishop Richard writes:
"Lourdes holds a special affection in the hearts of many across the Diocese. The annual diocesan pilgrimage to Lourdes is one of the most significant pastoral events in the calendar each year and can be a time of great blessing for those able to travel. Next year marks the 50th anniversary of the pilgrimage, and I would like to take this opportunity to ensure that the benefits of the experience, particularly for young people, become more widely known.
"St Bernadette’s encounter with Our Lady leaves a legacy that teaches us of faith and about our relationship with the Lord... All are welcome on our Diocesan Pilgrimage, especially the sick, elderly, disabled, families with young children, and all those who feel called to visit the Grotto in response to Mary’s call. In whatever capacity one may travel to Lourdes, for those truly open to the presence of the Holy Spirit, the experience leaves a lasting and profound effect to the good."
