"I warmly endorse the celebration of the Benedictine way of living the Gospel. Blogs, talks and podcasts will highlight the inspiration that St Benedict brings to people's lives today, while community events and times of prayer will enable active participation in this way of life. St Benedict says that guests are to be received with humanity and humility, two qualities that I hope will characterise the experience of those taking part in the week."
The hope of this week is to acknowledge the richness of the Benedictine tradition in the UK and collectively encourage a new generation of fans of St Benedict and a gospel life following in his path. Lay Community of St Benedict (LCSB) members will be coming together on both weekends for local celebrations and invite all Benedictine communities to consider doing the same - and to share photos with the LCSB for all to share.
Contributors to the 9-day festival include: Esther de Waal (a leading writer on St Benedict), Abbot Mark Barrett (the Abbot of Worth Abbey), Stuart McPherson (Headmaster of Worth School), Mike Woodward (the 1st leader of the LCSB), Charlotte Bonhoure (promised member of Manquehue), Br Aidan Messenger (a monk of Douai Abbey), Adam Simon (the leader of the LCSB), Revd Dr Janet Lees (URC minister and lover of St Benedict) and Sarah Morgan (former forerunner at Worth School).
Lastly (and fundamental to life as a Benedictine), everyone is invited to take the time to celebrate one of the Offices with a local Benedictine community to mark St Benedict Week.
