St Bernadette’s Catholic Primary School in Brighton gathered to celebrate Mary in their May Liturgy recently. The statue of Our Lady was crowned with a beautiful crown of spring flowers to recognise her as our mother and Queen of Heaven. Not only did the school community offer their prayers to Mary, but also had their new Mission statement blessed by Bishop Richard. Each class was given a special framed copy of the Mission Statement and a candle for their prayer areas.
The Liturgy was also an opportunity to thank headteacher Mrs Smith for her leadership and dedication to St Bernadette’s. Ordinarily, Mrs Smith would have had a special induction Mass upon joining St Bernadette’s but unfortunately Covid put a stop to that. So, Bishop Richard ‘officially’ handed over the keys (a rather large bunch) and thanked Mrs Smith for her service to Catholic education. The school thanked Fr John Hull, Julie Oldroyd, the Diocesan Director of Education, and all the staff and children who brought this special service together – the children read, performed and sang beautifully.
