Cardinal Newman students campaign successfully for counselling in schools

October 21, 2024

Students from Cardinal Newman School, Hove, led the campaign to win schools’ counselling in every Brighton school, then to secure similar commitments in national party manifestos. They did this working with students from other schools, synagogues, Catholic and Anglican parishes, and the Brighton & Hove Citizens UK organisation, which stated that:

"This is in response to the Mental Health Emergency which our city faces and which sees an estimated 1 in 5 young people experiencing mental health challenges (NHS data, January 2023)."

You can read more about the pilot programme here. The pilot was launched in October this year, targeting students in Year 9.

Last week the School was also visited by Professor Stephen Schneck, United States Commissioner on International Religious Freedom.
