Our diocesan Formation Team recently launched a Mental Health Training programme for all those involved in ministry within their parish. The new initiative includes a variety of training options with Awareness, Champion, and First Aid training courses for both adults and young people offered in-person at a range of locations across the Diocese - with some online sessions available.
Led by qualified counsellor, Lauren Carvalho, the first of the Level 1 MHFA England accredited course took place last Saturday at the St Philip Howard Centre in Crawley with 8 participants gathering to learn more about this incredibly important subject. Speaking about her experience of the course, Vivienne said:
"It was excellent, this is a subject which touches all our lives and if anyone is involved in a Ministry within their parish then this course will be of enormous benefit to them. We were fortunate to have a wonderful tutor, Lauren, who was very knowledgeable but enabled the participants to engage fully in the learning. The materials are excellent, and the Handbook is very readable and accessible."
Our diocesan Youth Adviser and course organiser, Lizzie Wakeling added:
"I was delighted by the response from those who took part. They were all very enthusiastic about Lauren’s delivery of the material and her ability to explore this sometimes quite challenging subject. All participants agreed that this training is for everyone, and I was delighted to hear that they will be recommending future courses to people in their parish communities!
Participants receive a certificate of attendance on successfully completing the course with opportunities to undertake further training and become a Mental Health First Aider.
