A fantastic fundraising Film Night attended by 62 parishioners at St Pius X church community in Guildford has raised just over £900 for the diocesan Refugee Fund, which helps to promote the work and mission of the Church and make the lives of refugees and asylum seekers living in our Diocese more hopeful.

Attendees gathered to watch "Cabrini" which tells the story of Francesca Cabrini (1850-1917), an Italian nun and the first American saint. Francesca co-founded the Institute of the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in 1880, and worked among poor Italian immigrants in New York, overcoming extraordinary obstacles to establish orphanages, hospitals, and schools in a number of American cities.

Commenting on St Pius' donation, our Social Action Adviser Tessa Ricketts said: “We would like to say a huge ‘thank you’ all those who contributed to Guildford communities' fundraising Film Night. The diocesan Refugee Fund helps to make the lives of refugees and asylum seekers living in our diocese better, often providing assistance which isn’t easily available elsewhere. Your generosity will help and benefit people of all ages living across our community.”
