Hastings to welcome a fantastic new Grandparents' Group.

December 1, 2022

A wonderful new Grandparents' Group is being set up at St Mary Star of the Sea parish in Hastings. Katherine Bergin, our Marriage and Family Life Adviser, and volunteer diocesan coordinators Christine and Mike Evans, attended a Mass and initial meeting at the parish yesterday, and were met with a great deal of of enthusiasm.

Katherine and Christine led a discussion about the principles of Grandparents' Groups - which aim to support Grandparents, to keep prayer at the heart of family life, and to pass on the faith - with an agreement to meet on third Wednesday of each month moving forward.

Speaking about the new initiative, Fr Eamon said:

"This is an exciting new venture for the parish and will support both those who have their own grandchildren, and those who are honorary grandparents to children within the parish."

Speaking after the meeting organiser Katherine said:

"It was really heartwarming to see how keen everyone was. It is important to recognise the wisdom that those with 'more steps on the journey of life' have to offer - the parish are already planning a special celebration for the annual Grandparents' Week next Autumn!"

Diocesan parish-based Grandparents’ Groups provide an important opportunity for people to come together through prayer, learning, encouragement and friendship. Groups are affiliated to the Catholic Grandparents' Association and welcome everyone, including honorary grandparents, who play an important role in many families’ lives. To find out more contact the parish or email Katherine here.
