Our pilgrims in Lourdes take part in the Blessed Sacrament Procession and Blessing of the Sick on Monday

July 29, 2024

A monstrance holding the Blessed Sacrament is carried by Bishop Richard on the esplanade under a canopy borne by four helpers, and accompanied by servers with lighted candles. Other clergy follow.

On Monday, Hotel and Accueil chaplains will celebrate Mass for their groups, in various churches and at various times. Some pilgrims will also visit the Baths for the Geste de l’Eau (Water Gesture).

At 11am, the Hand in Hand group will perform the “Hosanna” Cantata, a reflection based on the Passion.

This evening, Bishop Richard and our Diocese's 848 pilgrims in Lourdes will answer Our Lady's call to "Come in Procession", as they participate in the Blessed Sacrament Procession. In the darkness of the Underground Basilica, pilgrims will adore Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament and receive the Eucharistic Blessing.

As the priest makes the Sign of the Cross with the monstrance containing the sacred Host, our faith tells us that it is Our Lord himself who blesses us, and we receive the benediction with reverence, head bowed. This is a solemn and moving moment of the Pilgrimage, and a source of grace and healing to the sick, and to all who participate.

Let us pray for the healing of the sick across our community, and that devotion to the Blessed Sacrament may remain strong amongst us, and the practice of Adoration nourish our faith.
