New Sixth Form welcomes students at St Oscar Romero School, Worthing

St Oscar Romero Catholic School, Worthing, has welcomed the first Year 12 students into its brand-new Sixth Form. The 78 students are based in a new, purpose-built Sixth Form Centre. Opening a new Sixth Form is a great achievement for the school, whose results at GCSE are excellent but whose students, until now, had to find alternative 6th Form provision.

With the opening of St Oscar Romero’s new Sixth Form, ten of the Diocese of Arundel & Brighton’s eleven secondary schools now provide Catholic education right through from 11 to 18.

The new building has six classrooms as well as a study room, toilet facilities, an office, a common room and a canteen and can accommodate up to 120 students, however the Sixth Form will have provision for up to 200 students by also utilising the main school building.

Speaking about the development earlier in the year, the school said:

"The facility will fulfil an urgent requirement for sixth-form education within Goring-by-Sea.
"Being a Catholic school, the strong Catholic/Christian ethos of the school underpins everything [we] do.
"Although sixth formers will be distinct from the rest of the school, opportunities for them to be involved in the life of the school will be maximised. This includes leading charity events, volunteering, mentoring and supporting younger students. This not only gives sixth formers a strong sense of identity but builds self-esteem, resilience and strong moral values."

The new building will be blessed by Bishop Richard in October.
