A great new podcast from Universalis for people across our faith community!

March 12, 2024

A Bible open at the psalms, Psalm 106 and 107, against a dark background.

Universalis, the website and app offered to people who wish to access the readings at Mass online, has launched a new, free, weekly podcast, focussing on the readings for the coming week, and the themes of the liturgy. Each week’s episode is roughly 10 minutes long and episodes are released on Fridays, to give people time to listen to it before Sunday arrives.

Speaking in this week’s episode, Martin Kochanski, podcast host and creator of Universalis, says “Lent leads us up to the joy of resurrection and brings us into a state in which we are capable of receiving joy – just as, you might say, our whole lives are an exercise in making ourselves capable of receiving the joys of heaven.” Martin explores both the Sunday and Lenten weekday readings and the life of St John Ogilvie, whose feast is usually celebrated in Scotland on 10 March.

Universalis Publishing was started in 1995 with the aim of harnessing computer technology to help enrich the spiritual life of Christians - specifically by making the liturgical and devotional resources of the Catholic Church available on the then new electronic media. The Liturgy of the Hours: Morning Prayer, Evening Prayer and the other daily offices; also known as the Prayer of the Church or the Breviary, is available on the website for free together with the daily readings at Mass. In the app for phones and tablets, the unique Mass Today page combines the Order of Mass with the prayers and readings, in one continuous stream.
