This year’s Laudato Si’ Week theme is Seeds of Hope: let us be seeds of hope in our lives and our world, rooted in faith and love.
Laudato Si Week (May 19-26) aims to foster a deeper respect for creation, promote sustainable habits and deepen our commitment to a lifestyle that respects God’s gift to us: our common home, the planet. The Laudato Si’ week website includes a range of resources, including a special eight-day Celebration Guide aimed at encouraging people across the world to protect our Common Home through concrete actions and simple changes in the way we live.
Together, we can cultivate a world where harmony between humanity and nature is a tangible reality: “there are no lasting changes without cultural changes ... and there are no cultural changes without personal changes”(Laudate Deum 70).
Each day has a specific theme such as waste reduction, renewable energy use or water conservation with a supporting action: ways to put the theme into practice, explaining the action’s importance and impact on our planet based on both the Magisterium of the Catholic Church and scientific research. Through inspirational quotes, practical activities, reflections and prayers, the guide offers a valuable resource to inspire meaningful change in our interaction with the environment. Pope Francis has been outspoken in highlighting his deep concern for the environment and has written two Encyclical Letters about care for our common home. You can read Laudato Si (2015) here and Laudato Deum (2023) here.
