Bishop Richard awarded recently retired diocesan Education Officer Simon Parr with the Pro Ecclesia Et Pontifice (“For Church and Pope” in Latin) last week. The award is a decoration of the Holy See, conferred for distinguished service to the Catholic Church by lay people.
Simon was Education Officer for twelve years. Prior to his appointment in Arundel and Brighton Diocese he was Assistant Director of Education in Southwark diocese and he has a long history of service to and understanding of Catholic education. In carrying out his responsibilities, Simon worked closely with all four local authorities as well as with school leaders and governors and did so with the utmost professionalism. His collegiate nature was appreciated by all who had the pleasure of working with him. He is now enjoying a well-deserved retirement.
