St Edmund's Catholic primary school children celebrate Earth Day!

April 27, 2022

Friday 22 May was Earth Day around the globe and at St Edmund’s Catholic Primary School in Godalming we decided to teach the children all about what we are doing to our planet and how we can help to tackle the problem of pollution.

We explored the theme of reduce, reuse and recycle by undertaking a lot of fun activities.  [The company] Lush came in to make soap bubble bars with the children using  natural ingredients. The children also learnt about recycling and Year 5 learnt how to sort rubbish.  All the children used recycled material to make rosettes and they used old plastic cartons to make sun catchers.

Amelia in Year 3 said:

“It was good, I liked making the rosettes out of recycled material.  I enjoyed making the bubble bar. It made me think about plastic and I’m going to tell my grandma not to use it.”

Marcus in Year 5 said:

“Very exciting day, lots of activities.  I liked doing the sun catchers because it was very creative.  I liked the assembly because it was very informative.  I’m going to reduce by not buying something plastic unless it’s essential. I’m going to reuse my water bottles and I’m going to sort out my rubbish for recycling.”

Our thanks to Sarah Stilwell and Sue Hua for sharing this story. The theme for Earth Day 2022 was Invest In Our Planet. What Will You Do? Click here to find information on Earth Day events, activities, and what individuals and organisations can do to make a difference.
