Pupils from St Peter’s Catholic Primary School in East Grinstead have been taking part in CAFOD's Big Lent Walk, raising awareness and funds to support families across the world battling the climate crisis. After launching their campaign on Ash Wednesday, the children made posters to share the campaign with their families and the challenge began. Speaking about the fundraising effort, Ethan from the school's Spiritual Council said:
"It connected all of us because we were all putting our minds towards the same goal."
Yann, also from the school's Spiritual Council agreed:
"It was brilliant for everyone because if you wanted to go for a stroll or challenge yourself further you could do as much or as little as you wanted."
Each class has far exceeded their original 200 km target. After the school's Lenten Reconciliation service - and with the support of family and friends - students were able to add to the growing total, finishing with a very impressive final distance of 2,003 km. A representative from the school said:
"We are extremely proud of our whole school community who rose to the challenge, reflected upon the common good and helped to raise money for such a worthy cause."
