The lights at St Dunstan’s, Woking, are shining a little more brightly this month thanks to Liz Bowes, a local councillor from Surrey County Council. The church community at St Dunstan's was invited to bid for a "Your Fund Surrey" grant towards the relighting of its meeting rooms, public areas and car park, which are used by parishioners and a variety of local community groups including Woking Street Angels, the Woking and Sam Beare Hospice, Octavian Singers, and the local Ukrainian community.
By switching to LED lighting throughout, lighting costs will be cut to by c.66%, which is good both for parish finances and for the environment. Reflecting on the positive impact of the grant, Canon Rob Esdaile, said:
“We are delighted to have been able to undertake a major relighting of our public facilities recently, thanks to the ‘Your Fund Surrey’ small community fund. Not only has it made our buildings look much brighter and more welcoming for our many visitors, but the cutting of our lighting bill by almost two-thirds fits in beautifully with the aim of our CAFOD ‘LiveSimply’ project, seeking to live simply, sustainably and in solidarity with the poor.”
