The National Board of Catholic Women (NBCW) held their AGM at Romero House in London last month. The day was organised by the NBCW's new president, Amy Cameron, with the programme incorporating two key strands: 'Listening to women of our time' and a discussion to reflect on the mission and future structure of the NBCW.
The AGM included a number of speakers: Anita Motha, CEO of Million Minutes encouraged those assembled not to prejudge young women, asking them to ‘go humbly with an open heart’. Leila Bousbaa and Amy Gander from the Coalition for Global Prosperity spoke of the challenges of being young Catholic woman and the need to create a peer group.
Maria Southall the Director of Partnerships & Public Affairs at the Catholic Bishops' Conference of England and Wales (CBCEW) spoke about her research on female lay leadership in Catholic workplaces, highlighting that the Church needs skilled women in leadership to run organisations and charities.
Lastly, Abigail McMillan Head of Legacy Fundraising at CAFOD explored the experience and skills women bring to the Church. The meeting ended with a number of small group synodal conversations on proposed future plans for the NBCW.
The NBCW strives to give Catholic women a voice at national and international levels and actively promotes the presence, participation and responsibilities of Catholic women in the Church and in society. To find out more please contact Sue Petritz, our diocesan link here.
