Dear brothers and sisters,
On Saturday 22 June, the feast of Saints John Fisher & Thomas More, the Diocese will celebrate with great joy the ordination of two priests: Eddie Hopkins and Gus Campanello. Having studied for the Priesthood at St John’s Seminary, Wonersh and Allen Hall in Chelsea, the day has come for them to be ordained and to join the other priests of the Diocese in this wonderful service to God’s people.
We are greatly blessed to have them and I know you will keep them in prayer as they begin their priestly ministry.
Last week, two of our men in formation – Scott Coleman and Gary Garter – were ordained to the Diaconate at Westminster Cathedral, along with the others in their class at Allen Hall. Let us pray for them, as they continue the journey towards priestly ordination.
In the coming weeks, I shall ordain two men to the Permanent Diaconate: Ben Williams, who will be ordained in Lewes and Simon Tierney, to be ordained in Camberley. Pray for them, too – and for Simon’s wife, Anne, as the ordination days approach.
These celebrations will be wonderful occasions for the whole Diocese, as we rejoice in the response to God’s call given by them all. These days must also encourage us all to pray for vocations to priesthood and diaconate across the Diocese, that others will be open to the often quiet promptings of the Holy Spirit to those whom God calls. May many others follow in their footsteps and, in due time, offer priestly and diaconal service to the family of the Diocese.
With every blessing,
+ Richard
