Our Diocesan Youth Adviser Lizzie has launched a new training course for anyone who works with young people. Youthscape Essentials is an innovative course for volunteers and paid youth leaders that increases your skills and understanding about working alongside young people today. Whether you're running a community project, a church youth group, or occasionally helping out on a Sunday morning, the course is designed with you in mind! It’s not about the numbers of young people attending, it’s about putting God at the centre of your youth ministry.
The community at the Church of the Sacred Heart, Caterham, recently created a new youth group, and they asked Lizzie to deliver some training for the team. Initially they planned to begin with two introductory sessions, but the evenings were so interesting and so useful that the group decided they wanted to do all ten straight away! The group have been journeying together since January and finished the course last week.
Feedback from attendees was extremely positive, with one noting that "It has been such a pleasure and joy, and so much fun."
Reflecting on the experience after the course, Lizzie said:
"I have loved delivering this course. It is so interactive, with so many opportunities for really good conversation, that we were all really sad when the programme came to an end.
"With a chance to explore all the latest research on young people, and really creative ways to build the skills you need for youth ministry, I feel confident that the young people of Caterham are in very safe hands. I look forward to hearing about all the wonderful things they will go on to achieve."
If you would like Lizzie to deliver this course in your parish, please do get in touch with her: E: lizzie.wakeling@abdiocese.org.uk.
In addition, dates and locations for future courses will be published in the E-Bulletin, parish newsletters and our socials, or you can contact Lizzie to be added to her database. You will then receive regular updates about all the opportunities available for those who work with young people.
